Non-GMO ingredients you can trust
Consumers want the truth from you about what’s in your products. A growing number are concerned about genetically modified foods and are actively seeking non-GMO brands. We give you a choice of ingredients for your products: non-GMO or GMO.
For documented non-GMO ingredients and expertise you can trust (and tell your consumers about), look to Ingredion. We’re proud to bring you the broadest portfolio of non-GMO starch and sweetener ingredients available, including those derived from maize, rice, tapioca, potato, pulses and more. You can also rely on more than a decade of experience in meeting and exceeding international, third-party non-GMO standards for starches, sweeteners and nutrition ingredients.
We support the efforts of our customers to develop and implement appropriate labeling strategies for products with or without GMO ingredients. In all respects, the ultimate decision on how to identify and label ingredients on food packages remains with our customers.
Pure non-GMO maize and the TRUETRACE® program in the U.S.
Look to us for starches derived from traceable, identity-preserved maize. Since 2004, Ingredion’s TRUETRACE® program has protected non-GMO purity via global, third-party-audited best practices for segregation and documentation of our crops. Our grower partners follow strictly enforced procedures for seed, farm practices and production fields. Rigorous auditing assures non-GMO quality from planting to your manufacturing facility.
Our manufacturing plant in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the only completely certified non-GMO maize wet milling plant in the United States. Learn more about how we protect our ingredients and your credibility with the TRUETRACE® program.
The TRUETRACE® program allows Ingredion to trace any batch of starch back to the farmer who grew the corn, the fields on which the corn was grown and the seed varieties and lots used to grow the corn. See just a few of the ways we earn your trust with this proven program.
Farmers contract directly with Ingredion to grow several varieties of corn. These farmers follow the requirements of Ingredion’s TRUETRACE® program and submit to audits.
Farmers are required to use only non-GMO seed.
They certify cleaning of all equipment to be free from GMO material. Hired workers must be trained and farmers are required to provide proof of their training.
Farmers also must provide maps of all fields used to grow corn for Ingredion. No GMO corn may be grown in these fields during the previous year.
Unique identifiers are assigned to each farmer in Ingredion’s program to track each farmer’s grain through all stages of the production process.
Our other third-party growers follow the same procedures and are audited according to established protocol.
More than 15 of our NOVATION® maize-based native starches have been verified by The Non-GMO Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to independent verification of non-GMO status.
Starches from other non-GMO crops
You can also choose non-GMO starches derived from wheat, tapioca (cassava), potato, rice and sago. These crops—grown in Europe, Thailand and Brazil—either have no genetically modified versions or are grown in countries that prohibit genetically modified organisms. The ingredients derived from them are manufactured under strict protocols to preserve the identity of the crops and prevent contamination. For example, some tapioca ingredients are manufactured in our non-GMO plant in the U.S.
Flours, sweeteners and nutrition ingredients
For the highest non-GMO assurance in flours, look to HOMECRAFT® functional flours made in the United States from domestic grain. You can also choose gluten-free rice and corn flours or our new line of tapioca flours and pulse-based flours.
Demand for non-GMO sweeteners continues to grow and so does our portfolio. Ask us about our non-GMO sweeteners: ENLITEN® stevia sweetener from Brazil and glucose, dextrose and maltodextrin from our Ingredion network in North America and Thailand.
You will also find a wide range of nutrition and other ingredients, including:
- Fibers derived from non-GMO maize
- Fibers made from pure sugar cane, manufactured at a non-GMO facility in Canada
- Pulse-based proteins from Canada and the U.S.
- A high-efficiency emulsifier from Chile and hydrocolloids and gums from South America
Whether you need non-GMO starches, flours, sweeteners, emulsifiers, hydrocolloids or nutrition ingredients, you’ll find Ingredion gives you the broadest non-GMO starch and sweetener portfolio and some of the industry’s most knowledgeable experts.
